- Real Madrid beat Barcelona 2-1 on Saturday in the first El Clasico of the season
- But, the game was marred by allegations of racist abuse towards Vinicius Jr
- LaLiga announced they are investigating and are working with Barcelona
LaLiga are investigating allegations of racial abuse directed at Real Madrid star Vinicius Jr during Saturday’s El Clasico.
However, the clash – which took place at the Estadi Lluis Companys Olympic Stadium due to renovations at the Nou Camp – has been marred by allegations that Vinicius was racially abused as he was substituted in injury time.
And, after the game, the Spanish league acknowledged the incident and released a statement.
‘LaLiga has been working from the outset to identify the individuals involved in making racist insults and will file the relevant charges as is always the case,’ they said.

‘We are coordinating with the Mossos d’Esquadra [Catalan police] and FC Barcelona.’
ESPN also reported that LaLiga have already contacted Vinicius’ camp to discuss the issue.
Barcelona also commented on the allegations and insisted they would cooperate with the investigation to find the alleged perpetrators.
‘Barcelona will always defend the values of football and sport such as respect for the opponent and we will investigate any racist insult that may have occurred this afternoon during the match against Real Madrid,’ the Catalan giants said in a short statement.
The allegations of the abuse directed towards Vinicius are the latest in a long line of racism incidents the Brazilian has had to deal with.
Real Madrid won El Clasico 2-1 against Barcelona thanks to two goals from Jude Bellingham
For example, the forward was racially abused by multiple Sevilla fans during a 1-1 draw at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan last week.
Vinicius did however praise Sevilla for their quick response to those incidents after they ejected a fan and reported them to the authorities for racially aggravated insults.
Meanwhile, earlier in October, Vinicius provided evidence in a trial of three Valencia supporters who were accused of racially abusing him last season.
The Valencia incident was one of eight incidents LaLiga reported and documented last season for racism aimed towards Vinicius in what is a damming state of affairs.
