Shane Warne’s son Jackson recalls details of the chilling phone call  telling him his dad was dead: ‘I don’t think I’ll ever be able to forget’

Shane Warne‘s son Jackson has recalled the life-changing moment he learned his cricket legend father had died aged 52.

The Australian spin king died suddenly from a suspected heart attack aged March 4 2022 while holidaying with mates in Koh Samui, Thailand.

Speaking to SAS Australia star Ant Middleton‘s Head Game podcast this week, the 24-year-old revealed he learned of his father’s death after one of Shane’s travel buddies called him with the grim news.

Jackson was with his mother Simone Callahan, girlfriend Kiah Broadsmith, sister Brooke and Brooke’s partner Alex Heath at the time.

‘I still very vividly remember seeing my phone, and who was calling. I thought, ‘Hang on, he’s with my dad. Very weird that he would be calling me, not my dad. So I’ll answer it,’ he recalled.

After putting down the phone, Jackson said he burst into tears before sitting in silence for hours.

‘I don’t think I’ll ever be able to probably forget where I was or what I was doing,’ he said.

‘Because all you get is a phone call, and then when you hang up the phone call, your life that you’ve been living your entire life, everything you ever knew… just gets completely flipped upside down.’

Elsewhere, Jackson shared a heartbreaking confession about how he has been coping with the loss.

‘I’m still convinced – and it might sound crazy… that I’ll at least have one conversation with my dad again. I don’t know whether it will be in a dream, or somewhere,’ he confessed.

‘Because there’s no way I won’t be able to talk to him about poker or Saint Kilda football club, or any of the hobbies that we used to do all the time. There’s no way I won’t be able to talk to him about it.’

Shane was found unconscious in his hotel room at the Samujana Villas resort, Thailand, on March 4, 2022.

The grim discovery was made by his manager and friend Andrew Neophitou, who had gone to Shane’s hotel room before a planned dinner.

Neophitou desperately tried to revive him by performing CPR for 20 minutes – but he couldn’t be saved and later died in hospital.

An autopsy showed the sports star died of natural causes, with a suspected heart attack believed to be the cause.

Shane was later farewelled in a state memorial service at Melbourne Cricket Ground.

Jackson subsequently shared a gut-wrenching tribute to his father on Instagram, calling the late cricketer ‘truly the best father and best mate anyone could’ve asked for’.

Shane is survived by his ex-wife Simone Callahan, and children Jackson, Brooke and Summer.
